Women’s volunteer group achieves $1 million milestone in raising funds to support Conner Prairie

FISHERS, Ind. (Monday, Dec. 14, 2015/Conner Prairie) – A women’s volunteer group founded more than 30 years ago has achieved a major fundraising milestone for supporting central Indiana museum Conner Prairie.

At its Annual Meeting today, the Conner Prairie Alliance announced it has raised $1,077,123 for the museum since the group was founded in 1984.

All of the funds that the Alliance raises each year come from its operation of the Apple Store at Conner Prairie. In the fall, the store opens for just two months and offers a variety of seasonal treats, most notably hand-dipped, gourmet caramel apples. This season, the store’s 30th one since opening in 1985, the Alliance raised $85,000

“Our goal for the Alliance this year was to to exceed $1 million in our total contributions to Conner Prairie,” said Marcilynn Keys, president of the Conner Prairie Alliance. “Our members worked thousands of hours all year long to deliver one of our most successful Apple Store seasons ever. We are delighted to support the mission of Conner Prairie.”

This year, Alliance members volunteered for more than 2,800 hours to operate the Apple Store, hand-dipped and sold 12,492 caramel apples and served 7,224 apple cider slushies.

The Alliance consists of more than 100 women who connect and engage with other women throughout the year who share a passion for Conner Prairie’s future. In the past 10 years, the group raised nearly $700,000 to help support many of the museum’s popular exhibits, including the 1859 Balloon Voyage, 1863 Civil War Journey, Animal Encounters, Create.Connect and Discovery Station and Craft Corner.
